About The Position

LaunchTech is seeking a Network Engineer (Virtualization Specialist) to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. This role supports highly complex virtualization and network environments critical to mission systems, with a strong focus on VMware Cloud Foundation, NSX networking, and secure enterprise operations.

Requirements

  • Must have 10, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience
  • May be reduced with completion of advanced education
  • Must have 7, or more, years of directly related experience
  • Must have 1, or more, years of experience working in a management or leadership role
  • Must have experience with Internet Protocols (DNS, HTTP, SMTP, SSL) and firewall configuration and troubleshooting
  • Must be an effective communicator with strong writing and presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio
  • Must have a deep understanding of VMware Cloud Foundation infrastructure including: vSphere NSX vSAN
  • Must be able to use SDDC Manager to patch, upgrade, and maintain systems
  • Must understand traffic flow through logical routers and be able to implement these concepts in an NSX environment
  • Must be able to configure distributed stateful firewalling, NAT, load balancing, and micro-segmentation using NSX
  • Must have experience creating and configuring virtual distributed switches
  • Must have experience designing, installing, upgrading, and migrating storage using VMware vSAN
  • Must have experience migrating virtual machines from deprecated vSphere versions to VMware Cloud Foundation
  • Must have a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE, CySA+, etc.) or higher
  • Must have, or obtain, an active DoD Secret Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PIM, Layer 2 and Layer 3 multicast, and Type I encryption devices
  • Experience with VXLAN, Juniper Apstra, VMware Aria, and RHEL Ansible
  • VMware certifications such as VCTA, VCP-DCV, VCAP Design, VCAP Deploy, or VCDX-DCV
  • Knowledge of Missile Defense, DoD communications systems, and MDIOC operations
  • CCNA or JNCIA certification
  • Experience with network monitoring tools
  • Experience scripting with Python or PowerShell
  • Degree in an IT or Engineering-related discipline

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Network Engineer – Virtualization Specialist supporting network buildout and deployments to the C2BMC Test Facility
  • Perform a wide range of VMware system administration activities with little to no direct supervision
  • Provide root-cause analysis for recurring or critical system and network issues
  • Work closely with system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity teams to maintain a high-quality test environment
  • Perform vulnerability remediation and mitigation activities to reduce cybersecurity risk and ensure DoD compliance
  • Conduct daily system monitoring, backups, restores, and application upgrades to maintain continuous operations
  • Document system changes and actions in systems of record to ensure historical traceability
  • Advise government customers on system status, optimization, and improvement efforts aligned to program objectives
  • Use the REMEDY ticketing system to report, track, and document incidents and resolutions
