PURPOSE OF POSITION The Network Engineer Lead is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of the organization’s network infrastructure. This role provides technical leadership to the network engineering team, ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity across all systems and locations. The Network Engineer Lead drives architectural decisions, resolves complex network issues, and leads projects that enhance scalability and efficiency. This position partners closely with cross-functional teams, vendors, and leadership to ensure network solutions align with business needs and industry best practices. This role requires deep technical expertise combined with strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills to guide the team and support the organization’s strategic technology objectives.

Requirements

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to proactively anticipate future development needs and deliver efficient, high-quality support to end users.
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience as a Network and Security Engineer, with at least 2 years in senior role
  • Proven experience in network design and integration during mergers/acquisitions or similar large-scale projects
  • Strong background in cybersecurity, including vulnerability remediation, firewall management, and secure network architecture
  • Certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent are preferred
  • Hands-on expertise with technologies from Cisco, Fortinet, or similar vendors
  • Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and tools like SD-WAN, Zscaler, or similar
  • Ability to build rapport with others remotely while working productively with limited in-person interaction
  • Have access to a reliable and consistently strong, high-speed internet connection suitable for remote work. A stable, high-speed internet connection is essential for effective communication, collaboration, and productivity while working remotely
  • Designate a quiet, and well-lit space free of as many distractions as possible
  • Be online and available to work during designated business hours in local time zone
  • Accustomed to using Microsoft Teams (or similar virtual-meeting applications) to meet with colleagues regularly on video and use the chat feature for quick communications. We utilize many Microsoft Teams features (such as Channels and file storage) for announcements, relevant conversations, and file sharing. Familiarity with Microsoft Teams is a plus
  • Accustomed with file-storage and file-sharing tools such as Microsoft SharePoint

  • Experience working in retirement services and/or financial service industries a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, configure, and troubleshoot enterprise networks, including LAN/WAN, routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless systems
  • Monitor network performance, optimize reliability, and ensure high availability and scalability
  • Implement and maintain network security controls, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, access controls, and segmentation strategies
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing support, and remediation of identified security risks across network infrastructure
  • Lead or support projects in cybersecurity incident response and remediation including investigation, containment, and post-incident improvements related to network threats
  • Participate in M&A activities: Perform network due diligence on target companies, assess infrastructure compatibility, resolve IP conflicts, migrate Office 365 environments using BitTitan, and plan/execute secure network integrations
  • Migrate and consolidate networks from acquired entities to corporate standards, ensuring minimal disruption and alignment with security policies
  • Collaborate with IT security teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders on projects involving cloud networking, zero-trust architectures, and compliance (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR, PCI-DSS)
  • Mentor junior engineers and/or collaborate with IT vendors like IT Help Desk Managed Service Providers and consultants to complete projects and have successful SLA’s
  • Document network configurations, standard operating procedures, and provide advanced troubleshooting support.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, threats, and best practices in networking and cybersecurity.
