Designing, building, and testing new technologies requires the support and expertise of security professionals to protect the personnel, physical assets, and intellectual property that make such breakthroughs possible. This position will be a member of the Protective Services Division’s Physical and Electronic Security Group (PESG) and will report to the PESG Group Supervisor. Primary responsibilities include maintaining and upgrading the Laboratory’s electronic security network infrastructure that consists of, but not limited to, access control, network cameras, intrusion detection, computer aided dispatch and 911 call processing systems. In addition, you will assist with supporting Fire Alarm system network activities.

Requirements

  • Extensive understanding and wide application of principles, theories, concepts and techniques in a relevant field of knowledge.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards.
  • Bachelors degree with 3 years of related experience or Masters with 1 year of related experience or PhD with 0 years experience.
  • Proven understanding of general job aspects of installation, maintenance, and systems.
  • Strong understanding of assessing and troubleshooting equipment problems, repairing, or determining if equipment must be sent off-site for service.
  • Detailed understanding of installing cable runs, cable splice/terminations, and connecting equipment to an existing electronic infrastructure with applicable knowledge and skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to acquire a Secret Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Broad knowledge in one or more related fields of electronic security with a focus on Milestone video management systems/software and Lenel access control; systems/software..
  • Strong MS Office computer skills including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and familiarity with Visio, Paint, or CAD software applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable Laboratory policies and procedures, NASA policies and procedures, and government regulations.
  • Motorola Land Mobile Radio system familiarity with a focus on K-Core software and hardware systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex network engineering plans and partners with other network engineers to develop networks for security customers.
  • Implement network engineering plans, networks for customers and network management tools
  • Perform needs assessments for complex network segments.
  • Partner with other network engineers to create cost/benefit estimates, presentations, negotiations, installation, problem resolution, and multi-vendor product integration.
  • Provide engineering assistance in all customer interaction situations, including receipt of specifications, design, test, and response to service requests.
  • Define systems requirements and resolve complex problems.
  • Provide initial implementation assessment and recommendation of networks to assure proper execution.
  • Apply network tools and perform complex analysis of various network technologies and network research
  • Debug complex network problems and perform related tests.
  • Resolve complex system failures or degradations.
  • Apply broad knowledge in the field to create documentation
  • Evaluate the efficiency of the network and systems operations and make recommendations involving equipment and software efficiency and the need for replacement.
  • Provide problem and incident investigation and recommend resolution for complex problems.
  • Recommend modifications or expansion to the network and systems running on the networks
  • Monitor performance of network equipment and applications.
  • Make recommendations for improvements.
  • Monitor network health to ensure that operations are in accordance with established NASA policies and procedures with maintaining established levels of service.
  • Make recommendations for improvements.
