About The Position

We’re looking for a Network Engineer II to support and enhance enterprise-level LAN/WAN environments for a client in a highly regulated industry. This individual will be responsible for managing, implementing, maintaining, monitoring, and securing network systems hardware across local and wide area networks, wireless LAN, and remote access systems. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring optimal network performance, reliability, and security — proactively diagnosing issues, recommending upgrades, maintaining compliance standards, and supporting mission-critical operations. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on network engineering, troubleshooting complex environments, and working collaboratively to maintain high-availability infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field and 2+ years of experience in Network Engineering within Information Systems OR Associate’s degree in a related field and 4+ years of experience in Information Systems OR 6+ years of experience in Information Systems
  • Hands-on experience managing enterprise LAN/WAN environments.
  • Strong experience with Cisco networking equipment (including Cisco Nexus).
  • Experience with Fortinet / FortiGate firewalls.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), vulnerability scanners, and remote access technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot telecommunications hardware, storage systems, and operating systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting network environments in a healthcare or other regulated setting.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards and security best practices in regulated industries.
  • Experience participating in disaster recovery exercises and audits.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor network traffic usage and performance; proactively diagnose and resolve issues related to enterprise network operations, security, and remote access.
  • Install, configure, manage, secure, and operate switches, routers, firewalls, and related network equipment within core and enterprise LAN/WAN environments.
  • Perform maintenance and upgrades of network hardware to ensure optimal performance, capacity, patching, and compliance.
  • Ensure appropriate redundancy for all network components and services to meet established uptime goals with minimal interruption to mission-critical applications.
  • Monitor enterprise network security using intrusion prevention systems, vulnerability scanners, firewalls, and other diagnostic tools; ensure logging and alerting measures meet retention and compliance standards.
  • Develop and implement scheduled testing procedures to verify functionality in accordance with industry best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain change management documentation in compliance with IT Change Management policies.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for managed systems, including diagrams, databases, reports, procedures, and maintenance schedules.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
  • Provide upgrade recommendations and assist in annual budget planning for network improvements and component replacements.
  • Collaborate with IT Managers, Team Leaders, and business stakeholders to deliver high levels of customer service and technical expertise.
  • Participate in information security discussions, reporting, and recommendations.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, vendor recommendations, and evolving security threats.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and share coverage responsibilities with the networking team.
