GCI's Network Engineer II plays a crucial role in applying engineering principles across various sub-groups within the Technology Solutions internal departments. This position is responsible for the architectural design, development, implementation, and support of network systems that adhere to telecommunication industry standards. The Network Engineer II ensures the integrity of high availability network infrastructure, which is essential for maximizing performance in design, implementation, and support. This role requires a deep understanding of GCI's standard engineering concepts, including availability, efficiency, redundancy, scalability, and security. The engineer will identify opportunities for continuous improvement within the current network and systems facilities. Utilizing network monitoring tools, the engineer will troubleshoot network and system outages, schedule updates, and collaborate with architects to optimize performance. The position also involves maintaining a professional skillset through participation in educational opportunities, technical organizations, and personal technology use. Detailed reporting on network operational status and project milestones is a key responsibility, along with providing remote site support for off-site personnel and customers. Collaboration is essential, as the Network Engineer II will coordinate regularly with project management and engineering teams, manage escalation events, and develop and update documentation and support materials. Mentoring junior engineers and technicians is also a significant aspect of this role, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill development within the team.
