Organization: VEC SEO Job Summary: Engineering position specializing in network security technologies, with a primary focus on the implementation, support, and ongoing management of security solutions across the VUMC network infrastructure. Security solutions encompass a broad range of technologies, including infrastructure protections (e.g., firewalls, intrusion protection/detection systems, access control lists), denial of service protection solutions, log aggregation tools, web application firewalls, API security solutions, advanced threat detection, zero-day mitigation technologies, secure connectivity methods (e.g., IPsec tunneling, direct connections, SSL/TLS Client and Clientless solutions), local/global security policies, and Role-based / identity and access management solutions. . KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct support and sustainment operations for network security enterprise solutions. Comprehends and is capable of independently implementing small to medium network security infrastructure designs. Implements and performs network security and solutions monitoring. Intermediate to Advanced capabilities in network security solution troubleshooting. Subject matter expert resource for projects and medium to large-scale initiatives in the scope of network security technologies and solutions. TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES Firewall Management (Intermediate – Network / Infrastructure Focused) Understands the fundamental role of firewalls in network environments and can independently deploy and configure VUMC-adopted security solutions. Able to conduct evaluations of firewall rules and policies to ensure alignment with organizational security standards. Possesses advanced knowledge of internet protocols and networking principles. Security Monitoring (Intermediate – Network / Infrastructure Focused) Full comprehension and capable of operating network-based security monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, PRTG, Syslog, Wireshark, Strata Data Lake, Panorama). Confident in monitoring alerts and logs for potential security incidents. Support representative for the implementation of layered security strategies and execution of monitoring procedures under limited guidance or supervision. Familiar with and capable of advising on areas within the enterprise architecture that require monitoring and alerting solutions. Network Forensics (Intermediate – Network / Infrastructure Context) Intermediate to advanced level experience with network forensics in network environments. Capable of completing the collection and analysis of logs and reports from network security solutions to assist teams in investigating potential security events. Understands the importance of traceability and audit trails in network platforms. Security Troubleshooting (Intermediate – Network / Infrastructure Focused) Able to identify and escalate intermediate to advanced security issues in network-based systems. Utilize standard diagnostic tools and network service dashboards, command lines, graphic interfaces, or portals to effectively troubleshoot issues by leveraging data outputs. Understands how to work within network support ecosystems to resolve problems and contribute to maintaining secure configurations. Confident and knowledgeable in the inter-connection of compute resources and supporting network infrastructure to apply methodical trouble-shooting practices and procedures. Familiar with escalation methodology and best practices. Familiar with change control process and procedures Project Resource (Intermediate – Network / Infrastructure Focused) Intermediate to advanced subject matter expertise in VUMC-sanctioned cybersecurity solutions, practices, procedures, and guidelines. Capable of operating independently on technical advisement and taskings within the scope of VEC. Knowledgeable in the escalation and guidance review processes for areas outside the jurisdiction or knowledge capacity of this position. Capable of executing proper time and priority of effort management for assigned taskings and assignments.
