About the position

We're looking for a Network and Systems Administrator to provide advanced technical computer, infrastructure, network, and operations support for systems in this heterogeneous environment. You will work in a safety conscious, challenging, rapidly changing, and team-oriented environment to solve a variety of complex technical problems in a timely manner. This position is in the Information Technology Operations (ITO) Division supporting Strategic Deterrence at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) within the Computing Directorate. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work. This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

Responsibilities

  • Work at both the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and the Nevada Support Facility (NSF) providing computer and network infrastructure operational support in a fast paced and heterogeneous environment across several projects.
  • Provide network and systems administration to isolated networks and operational support of corporate partners to independently resolve problems, requiring highly advanced knowledge of one or more platforms (e.g., Windows, Office 365, DNS, VMWare, Active Directory, storage systems, backups, transportation encryption technologies, firewalls, switches, etc.).
  • Provide technical expertise to analyze, configure and deploy hardware equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with management, customers, and team members to evaluate, design, and recommend procurements of network, Windows, or appliance-based hardware and software.
  • Define and maintain support documentation and procedures utilizing standardized format methods to include industry standard configuration management database (CMDB) and datacenter infrastructure management (DCIM) software to document system configurations.
  • Be a team player, maintain appropriate technology, computer security, and safety knowledge, and support and represent the infrastructure team.
  • Provide weekly updates to senior leadership on projects and team performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge and technical experience with datacenter operations, Windows or Linux operating systems, VMWare virtual environments, and related hardware.
  • Knowledge of enterprise networking technologies, including datacenter cabling standards, routing protocols, overlays, or network virtualization.
  • Ability to lift and operate heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds) and climb ladders.
  • Experience exercising effective customer support skills in a diverse user community with widely varying levels of computer literacy.
  • Proficient interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, with ability to work independently and interact with a multi-disciplinary staff in a team environment.

  • Broad and in-depth knowledge and technical expertise with enterprise support tools for management, patching, or software distribution, computer network hardware, software, protocols, and principles, Windows computer security concepts and practices, computer network hardware/software, protocols and principles, and Windows operating systems.
  • Professional computer certification (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA A+, ACSP, RedHat) or a professional network certification (e.g., CCNA, BICSI).
  • Experience directing complex troubleshooting.
