About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Network & Cable Decommissioning Manager to join our team. As a manager in this team, you will work directly with engineers and managers across the company to support and scale as-built designs for data centers in the AMER West region. You will also work with existing local and global teams to develop innovative solutions to decommission networks and cabling and manage the implementation of solutions. Requirements

  • 4+ years of management experience
  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management work (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
  • Experience in management
  • Experience as a general contractor and in vendor management (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution
  • Experience hiring, developing, and managing high-performing technical teams
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA

Nice To Haves

  • Experience owning the operation of a mission-critical team or product
  • Experience with large-scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms
  • Experience with process improvement techniques such as Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma

Responsibilities

  • Lead team to safely decommission network racks, loose gears, and abandoned fiber cables across all DCs, TCs, and Edge sites located within the region while guaranteeing the health and safety of our technicians and zero impact on customers.
  • Drive the planning, design, implementation, organization, and day-to-day operation of NCD AMER WEST in support of strategic objectives.
  • Interact and work directly with networking engineers, networking senior TPMs, and managers across several functional areas to support and unblock scaling activities throughout the region.
  • Define plans and process to achieve required capacity and network requirements via decommissioning efforts.
  • Champion projects for the organization that result in cost savings and/or efficiencies. Drive innovative solutions related to process improvements, tooling, and automation to safely and effectively conduct all global decommissioning activities.
  • Partner with peer leaders within the NCD organization to create and perpetuate a true lifecycle approach.
  • Support new activities designed to harvest and recycle components to alleviate supply chain challenges and maximize cost avoidance.
  • Manage and develop a team of Decommissioning engineers and technicians. Participate in recruiting efforts, continually raise the Bar, and actively train and develop others.
