About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), in collaboration with our partners, protects the health and safety of all North Carolinians and provides essential human services. DHHS Information Technology (IT) Division provides enterprise information technology leadership and solutions to the department and their partners so that they can leverage technology, resulting ultimately in delivery of consistent, cost effective, reliable, accessible, and secure services. DHHS IT Division works with business divisions to help ensure the availability and integrity of automated information systems to meet their business goals. If you are looking for a rewarding IT support career, consider the Network Analyst II opportunity with the State Laboratory of Public Health (SLPH) and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Raleigh, NC. The SLPH is the State entity that provides certain medical and environmental laboratory services (testing, consultation, and training) to public and private health provider organizations responsible for the promotion, protection and assurance of the health of North Carolina citizens. The OCME investigates all deaths in North Carolina due to injury or violence, as well as natural deaths that are suspicious, unusual, or unattended by a medical professional. This position should have considerable (conception and practical) knowledge of high-availability server and VoIP operations, significant VoIP communications experience (Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco Expressway, Cisco endpoints and Jabber), demonstrated expertise in network/server problem resolution/troubleshooting, extensive experience with LAN Layer 2\3 switching, Palo Alto\Cisco firewalls, VMWare ESXi hosts, SIP, QoS, DNS, and DHCP.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, an IT related field, or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in networking or related area
  • Associate degree in computer science, an IT related field, or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in networking or related area
  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of experience in networking or related area
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of telecommunications network concepts, components, architecture, protocols, transport systems, and communications hardware and software.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and design network systems using the application of electronic and communications principles, communications protocols, and network topologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and interpret various system logs and reports to troubleshoot and formulate solutions to network issues.
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior network staff.
  • Familiarity with medical systems or laboratory environments.
