About The Position

Human Resources announces an opening for a 1.0 Network Analyst GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of all local and wide area networks, communications networks, personal computers, and related hardware and software. Troubleshoots all data network related systems, in schools and administrative facilities, and various platforms. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS (May not include all duties performed; not all incumbents perform all functions delineated) • Manage a customer service quality program, to include use of performance-based metrics. • Provide broad-based technical support to users of networks, systems. • Effectively understand and resolve user concerns, which range from the ordinary to the complex. • Provide first level telephone, e-mail and on site support to APS for all technical issues • Serve as technical point of contact for hardware/software computer and printer problems • Troubleshoot, analyze, repair, install and configure software applications on all IT customer computer systems or related equipment. • Provide oversight of high availability networks; disaster recovery planning, virtualization • Provide oversight of security controls, firewalls, IPS, IDS and authorized access controls (i.e. Active Directory LDAP, eDirectory, etc) • Identify and resolve network-related problems. • Manage and maintain production systems to ensure they are operating; makes modifications as required. NETWORK ANALYST I/II/III (Career Ladder) • Designs, configures, and implements production systems. • Prioritizes numerous concurrent projects and manages own daily workload. • Conducts needs assessments and analysis, working with schools to determine what they need. • Researches and tests new technology; keeps up with current developments. • Creates, implements, tests and deploys Novell application objects. • Manages and updates workstation images for system wide deployment. • Creates organizational units (network infrastructure trees), login scripts, group membership, and policy sets that govern workstation behavior. • Manages configures, installs, and troubleshoot printers and printing methodology. • Researches, troubleshoots, and resolves issues with local and network applications. • Designs desktop applications and images for loading onto network. • Interfaces with teachers, administrators, and staff on a day-to-day basis. • Provides technical oversight and direction to other APS technology staff, including school- site based personnel. • Develops Guidelines and Standard Procedures; defines system processes for others. • Performs duties as Technician for Technology Integration Solutions unit as assigned • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Some knowledge of LAN hardware and software.
  • Some knowledge of TCP/IP and Internet-related services
  • Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in troubleshooting LAN hardware and software.
  • Good knowledge of LAN/WAN hardware and software, NetWare NDS, Microsoft NT, Appleshore IP, applications software and communications technology.
  • Good knowledge of TCP/IP and Internet-related services.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in analyzing networked systems and to make sound recommendations and modifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of LAN/WAN hardware and software, NetWare NDS, Microsoft NT, Appleshore IP, applications software and communications technology.
  • Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP and Internet related services.
  • Knowledge of Unix.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work of other analysts providing network support.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in analyzing networked systems and to make sound recommendations and modifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of Apple Windows hardware, software and networking required of analysts who support the instructional program.
  • Ability to write effectively in order to develop technical documentation and user manuals.
  • Ability to coordinate work with user offices.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to deal with changing technologies and priorities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other APS employees, contractors, vendors, and county employees.

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related degree, including or supplemented by technical training in the operation of wide-area networks
  • Some experience installing and supporting router-based wide-area networks utilizing 10BaseT Ethernet, intelligent hubs and concentrators, and network protocols including TCP/IP.
  • Some increasingly responsible experience installing, configuring and supporting router-based wide-area networks utilizing 10BaseT Ethernet, intelligent hubs and concentrators, and network protocols including TCP/IP. At least one successful year at the Network Analyst I level.
  • Considerable and increasingly responsible experience installing, configuring and supporting router-based wide-area networks utilizing 10BaseT and 100 BaseT Ethernet, intelligent hubs, concentrators, switches, and network protocols including TCP/IP. Some supervisory experience as a project leader is required at this level, and some successful experience at the Network Analyst II level.

Nice To Haves

  • Network certification CNE or MCSE desirable.
