About The Position

The Network Administrator within the University of California, San Francisco’s (UCSF) Information Technology (IT) department will be entrusted with managing and maintaining UCSF's network wired services to ensure seamless connectivity and efficient communication across campus. Working closely with colleagues and stakeholders, the Network Administrator will play a crucial role in implementing and supporting network solutions that meet the evolving needs of our organization. The Network Administrator’s expertise will be instrumental in troubleshooting network issues, optimizing performance, and implementing security measures to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of UCSF data. The Network Administrator will positively impact UCSF’s operations and culture by ensuring UCSF’s IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university’s academic, medical, and research mission. This team member will advance the University’s mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCSF’s vision while modeling UCSF’s culture and values. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The annual salary range for this position is $90,700 - $193,500 (Annual Rate). Note: Certain terms and conditions of employment for this position, including the rate of pay, benefits, etc., are currently subject to negotiation with the appropriate union. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or four years of relevant experience, i.e., one or more of the following fields: computer science, engineering, computer information systems.
  • Three years or more of experience working in one or more of the following fields: network services, information technology, or network operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional communications and network concepts necessary to resolve issues using established parameters, creativity, and independent judgment, escalating as necessary.
  • Understanding of various network hardware platforms, network-related protocols, and software.
  • Experience with network diagnostic and network performance management tools and software.
  • Ability to gather, organize and analyze data in the completion of a variety of functional assignments.
  • Proven ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting network devices such as routers, switches, wireless networking equipment, load balancers, DDI platforms, and/or network monitoring tools
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and SNMP.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools such as Nagios, Cacti, Spectrum, Datadog, SolarWinds, PRTG, or Cisco Prime.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose network connectivity issues, both wired and wireless, in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with network best practices and the ability to implement and maintain network infrastructure configurations, load balancers, DDI platforms, and/or network automation tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and experience working with cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Experience with network automation and scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
  • Understanding of ITIL framework and its application in network management and service delivery.
  • Knowledge and experience working with network management systems.
  • Certifications (preferred): Network +, CCNA, or equivalent Aruba Certifications, ITIL
