About The Position

This exempt position provides intermediate-level support and administration of the water utility’s network infrastructure across both enterprise IT and operational technology (OT) environments. This role is responsible for maintaining reliable connectivity between treatment plants, pump stations, field offices, and central data centers, while ensuring secure integration with SCADA systems, telemetry networks, GIS platforms, and business applications.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in CLI configuration of Cisco, Juniper, or Aruba network devices.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking (Azure VNet, AWS VPC, GCP networking) and hybrid connectivity (VPN, ExpressRoute, Direct Connect).
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, NAT, QoS, and multicast protocols.
  • Ability to interpret and troubleshoot routing tables, ARP caches, MAC address tables, and spanning tree states.
  • Advanced knowledge of firewall platforms (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA) and access control lists.
  • Ability to interpret network diagrams and update Visio, Lucidchart or draw.io documentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Networking, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Networking Certifications (required), Cisco CCNA or equivalent (preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience in network administration or operations.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and incident management skills.
  • Additional education and professional certifications may be required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a motor vehicle record within the acceptable or no less than borderline rating according to the District’s insurance company.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor network health using SNMP-based tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG) and respond to alerts.
  • Configure and maintain VLANs, trunking, link aggregation, and inter-VLAN routing on managed switches.
  • Analyze and resolve routing problems using OSPF and static routes.
  • Manage firewall policies, NAT configurations, and VPN tunnels across platforms (e.g., Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA).
  • Troubleshoot connectivity problems involving DHCP leases, DNS resolution, ARP conflicts, and IP routing.
  • Configure and verify port settings on managed switches (VLAN assignments, trunk/access modes, STP status).
  • Document network topology changes, IP address allocations, and incident resolution steps in ITSM platforms (e.g., Service Desk +, Jira).
  • Maintain asset inventory for network hardware (switches, routers, APs, firewalls) using CMDB tools.
  • Assist with firewall rule verification and NAT troubleshooting under supervision.
  • Implement and monitor network security controls: ACLs, port security, 802.1X, and IDS/IPS alerts.
  • Maintain and optimize wireless infrastructure (802.11ac/ax), including controller-based APs and RF tuning.
  • Collaborate with systems, cloud, and security teams on cross-functional network projects.
  • Perform network infrastructure firmware upgrades and communicate maintenance windows
  • Other duties as assigned.
