NetBackup Storage Engineer
About The Position
The Organization is seeking a senior Storage Backup Engineer focusing on designing and engineering an end-to-end backup solution for the Organizations infrastructure and applications using the latest software and features of NetBackup. This role involves project-related work in an Engineering lab environment and is not an operational role. This is an exciting, challenging and rewarding role for a dynamic senior technologist with a passion for delivering excellent products and services. The core responsibility will be to provide and maintain integrated backup solutions for the Organizations applications. By understanding specific requirements of the stakeholders, the Backup Engineer will test and certify new versions of NetBackup software and be able to develop end-to-end solutions for applications used at the Organization, including Oracle, VMware, MS-SQL, SharePoint, Sybase, etc. Working both independently and as part of larger teams, the Backup Engineer will develop designs and test plans, execute the test plans, validate the design in a lab environment, and document the final solution. The Backup Engineer is responsible for developing and documenting global standards. When possible, the Backup Engineer will integrate automation into the solutions, either via custom scripts or third-party solutions. The Backup Engineer will provide third-level support for the operations teams, including working closely with both the Organizations operations teams and the vendors to troubleshoot critical production issues.
Requirements
- Expertise with NetBackup 7.5/7.6 software and major features
- Experience in large scale environments, consisting of thousands of clients
- Extensive experience backing up virtual environments (ESX) and database environments (Oracle, MS-SQL, Sybase)
- Extensive experience with different target media, including tape libraries, spinning disk, VTL, etc.
- Experience with encryption solutions and key management
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Experience with Linux and/or Windows system administrator tasks
- Scripting skills in PERL, shell or similar
- Good understanding of server hardware to support media and master servers
- Ability to understand and interpret stakeholder requirements and turn them into an end-to-end solution
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Great work ethic
