About The Position

We are looking for a highly motivated NES Spec Ed Employment Rep to bridge the gap between the classroom and the community. In this specialized role, you will provide real-life practice and on-site job training for students with moderate to severe disabilities. Operating under the New Education System (NES) model, you will be the boots-on-the-ground advocate helping Life Skills students develop the vocational and social skills necessary for independence. Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 6 months to 1 year of experience in a related field (education, job coaching, or social services).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office equipment (copiers, scanners, etc.) for reporting and documentation.
  • Communication: You are comfortable speaking with employers, parents, and educators to coordinate student needs.
  • Independence: You can work under direct supervision while effectively managing your time across various community training sites.
  • Commitment: You have a deep-seated desire to help students with developmental disabilities achieve their highest level of independence.

Responsibilities

  • Job Coaching & Training: Provide direct, on-site coaching to high school students at community training sites. You will help students master employable skills identified in their IEP vocational goals.
  • Community Partnerships: Implement marketing strategies to find and develop new community training sites. You’ll conduct orientations for business staff on how to work effectively with various disability types.
  • Transportation Training: Guide students in mastering public transportation to ensure they can navigate their community safely.
  • Progress Monitoring: Use anecdotal records and training logs to track student progress. You will work closely with Life Skills teachers to ensure all mandated vocational training hours are met.
  • Site Analysis: Conduct job-site evaluations to ensure the environment matches the individual physical and developmental needs of each student.
  • Collaborative Support: Partner with Vocational Adjustment Coordinators (VAC), campus chairs, and local businesses to ensure all services meet district, state, and federal transition requirements.
