About The Position

At GBH, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and Wednesday, Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW NEPM is a multi-media organization producing and broadcasting radio, TV and digital content to western Massachusetts from our studios in Springfield. Our public radio services offer a mix of NPR news, classical and jazz. JOB OVERVIEW Students will work alongside NEPM’s experienced news team, learn the basics and produce stories to air on the radio and appear on NEPM's website and social channels. This position does not have a remote option; it is based at NEPM's office in downtown Springfield.

Requirements

  • Interested in journalism and public affairs
  • Familiarity with news writing required

  • Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.
  • Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wifi.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with digital audio production preferred
  • Knowledge of Canva and Adobe Suite preferred
  • Ability to work under deadline
  • Access to a car and ability to drive is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Reports to News Department Executive Editor
  • Work independently and with other reporters to cover daily and enterprise stories in western Massachusetts.
  • Schedule and perform interviews in the studio, by telephone and in the field.
  • Report, voice and mix audio stories.
  • Draft digital stories.
  • Create social posts for their own or for other reporters' stories.
