About The Position

The Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Pathway is designed as a structured program for physician assistants to transition successfully into neonatal intensive care. PA fellows will gain comprehensive training in high-acuity neonatal care; developing the foundational knowledge base, clinical proficiency, and leadership skills needed to thrive in a leading healthcare system. This program serves as an entry point and career development pathway for PAs interested in neonatology, offering robust mentorship, simulation-based education, and opportunities for sharing scholarly work. Graduates from this fellowship will be prepared to step into practice at the top of their scope, with a clear trajectory for growth as independent neonatal APPs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Science.
  • Licensure as a physician Assistant in the state of Georgia.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • NRP Certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 60 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience in pediatric healthcare preferred.
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Medical Science.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive patient care management within a collaborative practice model for neonates under the supervision of the supervising/collaborating physician within the scope of practice outlined by state statute and Children’s bylaws in the inpatient and/or ambulatory settings.
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams and identify normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, health care professionals, and students.
  • Facilitate patient referrals to other medical providers, medical facilities, and other health/social service agencies as needed.
  • Collaborate and/or consult with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Recognize the importance of participation in professional organizations.
  • Accept responsibility for ongoing professional development and maintenance of professional competence and credentials.
  • Continuously conduct self-evaluation of advanced practice skills in an effort to ensure competent clinical care and continued self-development.
  • Assist in the development of education for department/practice.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement based on professional practice standards for department/practice.
  • Participate in and comply with hospital/departmental policies.
  • Support compliance with National Patient Safety Goals related to applicable administrative Joint Commission.
