Battelle is seeking a NEON Field Ecology Intern for the Summer of 2025, located in Bozeman, MT. This internship is part of the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), a continental-scale observation facility funded by the National Science Foundation. The NEON program aims to collect long-term, open access ecological data to understand how U.S. ecosystems are changing. Interns will play a crucial role in collecting observational data and samples, monitoring automated systems, and operating airborne observation platforms to capture remote sensing data of regional landscapes and vegetation. The work environment is dynamic, with variable schedules and a mix of field and lab work, primarily focused on ecological data collection in diverse biomes, including national parks and protected wilderness areas. Interns will be responsible for performing field assignments under various conditions, following established protocols for sample collection, recording data, navigating to field sites, and reporting activities. The position requires a strong attention to detail, effective problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Interns will also need to manage their own housing and transportation to the primary work location. The internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in ecology and environmental science while contributing to significant research efforts that aim to address pressing ecological challenges.
