Battelle is seeking a NEON Field Ecology Intern for the Summer of 2025, located in Boulder, CO. This internship is part of the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), a continental-scale observation facility funded by the National Science Foundation. The NEON program aims to collect long-term, open access ecological data to understand how U.S. ecosystems are changing. Interns will play a crucial role in collecting observational data and samples, monitoring automated systems, and operating airborne observation platforms that capture remote sensing data. The work environment is dynamic, with variable schedules and a mix of field and lab work, primarily focused on ecological data collection across diverse biomes. Interns will be responsible for performing field assignments under various conditions, following established procedures for sample collection, and recording data using handheld devices. They will navigate to field sites, report activities, and assist with administrative duties as needed. The position requires a commitment to safety and adherence to protocols, with opportunities to work in areas such as botany, soils, entomology, and more. Interns will gain hands-on experience and contribute to meaningful projects that address pressing ecological challenges.
