About The Position

This role is integral to Blue Origin Operations, which encompasses Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, providing manufacturing and supply chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As an NDT Shift Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team of inspectors who perform Nondestructive Testing methods on various materials and spaceflight systems. Your contribution will directly impact the assurance of part integrity, quality, and lifespan. The role specifically seeks an individual who can apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively influence safe human spaceflight. A strong passion for Blue Origin's mission and vision is essential for this Shift Leader role, which operates on a D Shift/3rd shift schedule, Friday through Sunday from 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace NDT field.
  • Blue Origin Level II certification in two or more methods (minimum of one volumetric – RT or UT).
  • Certification in and/or knowledge of NAS 410 and ASTM/AWS specs for certifications and inspection requirements.
  • Excellent demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with NDT inspection.
  • Knowledge in the use and application of multiple NDT methods (RT, PT, UT, ET, IR preferred).
  • Knowledge of drawings, production work orders and familiarity with inventory and issue tracking systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Ability to work extended hours, support A-shift shift as needed.
  • Physically able to climb ladders and stairs, and work in small, restricted areas.
  • Physically able to lift and carry 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Level II certification in two or more methods (minimum of one volumetric – RT or UT).
  • 2+ years in a leadership position.
  • Knowledge in the use and application of advanced NDT methods (ST, THz, CT, preferred).
  • Familiarity with MS Project and CAD/CAM drawing package.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to document and maintain accurate records, as well as read drawings and prints.
  • Ability to use standard tools and basic fabrication equipment.
  • Experience inspecting and troubleshooting aerospace or military hardware.
  • Attention to detail, passion for space and for success.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising personnel including setting near and long term goals, performance reviews, coaching, planning and managing work schedule, and monitoring labor planned versus worked hours.
  • Hold group standup meetings to understand and schedule NDT work priorities.
  • Work, and coordinate, with NDT Management, and other NDT supervisors to share NDT resources as necessary to meet production priorities/demands as well as to promote growth and expanded certification capabilities across the NDT organization.
  • Provide status updates on production deliverables at daily schedule meeting.
  • Participate in the author of job descriptions, candidate screens, and interview panels making hiring recommendations.
  • Promote and inspire teamwork and good employee morale.
  • Maintain and acquire certifications and perform inspections as required.
  • Work with engineers to review design concepts, provide feedback for ease of assembly, support development tests and contribute to process development.
  • Ensure team members’ training records current and accurate.
  • Ensure all products meet quality standards in accordance with released engineering drawing.
  • Maintain stock of consumable items.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and calibrated.
  • Promote and maintain 5S and FOD controls.
  • Perform 5S audits and FOD walkdowns on a regular basis as defined by leadership.
  • Develop and implement process, efficiency, and continuous safety improvements.
  • Guide teammates and ensure that each person has everything vital to safely succeed.
  • Implement, communicate, and maintain a safety program unique to the NDT area in addition to the Blue Origin’s internal Environmental Health and Safety program.
  • Conduct inspections on hardware per qualified inspections.
  • Support customers and product flow through NDT workcenters.
