About The Position

Non-Destructive Inspection Technician Performs inspection of aircraft, engines and ground support equipment for structural integrity using non-destructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis. Performs the duties of an NDI Level II Examiner IAW NAS-410 and is certified for specific techniques in a given method of non-destructive inspections for aircraft, engines, and ground support equipment. Performs both on and off equipment maintenance. Performs certified tasks with minimum supervision. Performs non-destructive inspections of aircraft, engine components, and ground support equipment, using industrial radiographic, ultrasonic, eddy current, fluorescent penetrate, magnetic particle, and optical inspection techniques. Performs NDI testing, including that associated with TCTO related inspections, IAW applicable technical data. Notifies maintenance personnel regarding the extent and location of each defect detected during NDI activities and documents each defect on applicable forms. Uses Core Automated Maintenance System (CAMS) computers. Accomplishes process controls, and performs operator maintenance of assigned NDI equipment. Ensures compliance with all applicable safety, housekeeping, tool control, and FOD prevention programs. Maintains technical orders and composite tool kits. Assists in training and direction of assigned personnel. Prior military personnel must present a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge. Must be able to work all assigned shifts & schedules. Shall perform other duties as may be assigned, to include TDY and travel. Performs other duties, as required. Knowledge & Skills Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Skills and knowledge to perform specific tests, calibrations, and interpretations and evaluations for acceptance or rejection. Working knowledge of the types and locations of defects to be expected is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance. Experience & Education Graduation from the Department of Defense NDI School or equivalent is required. During the last eight (8) years must have a minimum of three (3) years recent aircraft and component non-destructive inspection experience in inspection techniques such as eddy current, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, radiographic and meet NAS 410 Level II NDI requirements. Familiarization with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy instructions, Radiological Affairs Support Program (RASP) Manual NAVSEA S0420-AA-RAD-010 (RAD-010), Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPBs), manufacturer's manuals and company instructions. Physical Requirements/Working Environment This classification activity is usually accomplished in a hangar/shop/flight line environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with these activities. May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
