About The Position

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Non-Destructive Evaluation Technician, supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. The NDE Technician will work as a member of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts. Open to internal and external candidates. The NDE Technician will play an important role in ensuring the safety and reliability of various materials, components, and structures, and welding fabrication using a variety of techniques to detect flaws, imperfections, or changes in material properties that could lead to failure.

Requirements

  • High School diploma plus a minimum of two years college or technical training
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in engineering technology with curriculum in non-destructive testing and evaluation
  • 3 years related NDE experience
  • Qualified and certifiable as Level I/II in the following NDE methods: Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT-UTT), Radiographic Testing (RT-RAM/X-ray), and Visual Testing (VT) OR Must pass the Level I certification examination for at least 1 NDT method within 6 months of employment
  • Industrial radiography “Radiation Safety Certification” must be obtained within 24 months of employment
  • Respirator use certification must be obtained within X time frame.
  • A strong understanding or interest in materials science, physics, and engineering principles
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word products
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving/troubleshooting skills
  • Experience reading piping drawings

Responsibilities

  • Performs and assists in nondestructive testing on piping, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, test hardware, and rocket motors
  • Utilize various methods to inspect materials and components such as radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, liquid penetrant testing, eddy current testing, infrared thermography, etc.
  • Once results are obtained, the technician will interpret the results from the testing process to identify and characterize any flaws or anomalies and document their findings in detailed reports.
  • Witness and verifies procedural compliance of both hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing of piping systems and pressure vessels
  • Performs In-Service Inspections (ISI0 of PHMS certified systems, document findings, and assist PHMS engineering in monitoring corrective action
  • Administers and witness welder performance qualification (WPQ) test
  • Maintains inventory, proper maintenance, and calibration of lab equipment as needed
  • Performs NDT in certified methods at geographically separated units
  • Performs tool box inspections
  • It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
