The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is an organization of approximately 2,000 personnel of which 700 serve at HQ and the remaining staff serve at offices worldwide. NCIS is the DON component with primary responsibility for criminal investigation, law enforcement (LE), counter-terrorism (CT), counterintelligence (CI), and cyber matters. NCIS not only has primary responsibility for all criminal investigative, CI, CT, and cyber matters within the DON, but it also has exclusive investigative jurisdiction in non-combat matters involving actual, potential, or suspected criminal, terrorism, sabotage, espionage, and subversive activities. MEANINGFUL WORK + PERSONAL IMPACT As a SQL Database Administrator, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of our IT Technology Development division within the NCIS ITD organization in Quantico, VA. As the SQL DBA Administrator, you will manage all current and planned SQL Server databases that support our customer’s COTS applications. You will also be part of a team of systems administrators managing Windows Server 2016-2019, desktops, and printers. In addition: You will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of these databases. If additional databases are required in the future, the candidate will be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing those databases, including database creation, security, access, backup and recovery, and documentation. You must be experienced with applying STIGs to SQL Server databases and be familiar with the impacts on the related applications. You must have excellent documentation skills, and will be responsible for creating related standards, operating procedures, and security documentation. Database monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and tuning Perform administration and management of Microsoft SQL Server 2012-2019 and Microsoft SQL Reporting Services Familiar with SQL Always-on setup and management and Microsoft Failover Clustering Perform day-to-day monitoring and maintenance of SQL Server databases. Perform database and system performance monitoring and troubleshooting Database Backup and Recovery Develop, document, and apply procedures for database backup and recovery Perform scheduled and nonscheduled database backups and recovery with Microsoft SQL Server SSMS, or SQL CMD Database Creation Participate in the analysis of database solutions o Responsible for the definition, design, creation, and implementation of a database environment with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security Systems Administration Evaluate and install new software releases, patches, and system upgrades Identify and troubleshoot system issues Develop, document, and apply procedures for systems backup and recovery May program in an administrative language (PowerShell, VBS, etc.) Perform ACAS and SCAP scans and remediation Assist Tier 2 help desk with issues elevated to systems administrators Create and update user accounts, perform accounts management in Active Directory Security and STIGs Support the Certification and Accreditation process - run scans; resolve findings; document solutions, workarounds or provide justifications for exceptions Document, implement, and maintain database security policies in accordance with DISA STIG requirements Documentation Define and oversee database standards, controls, procedures, and documentation Create all documentation required for Release Management Framework (RMF) Complete planning and documentation prior to new integration or implementation SSIS and PowerBI Reporting Server Administration Other SQL DBA duties as assigned
