The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is an organization of approximately 2,000 personnel of which 700 serve at HQ and the remaining staff serve at offices worldwide. NCIS is the DON component with primary responsibility for criminal investigation, law enforcement (LE), counter-terrorism (CT), counterintelligence (CI), and cyber matters. NCIS not only has primary responsibility for all criminal investigative, CI, CT, and cyber matters within the DON, but it also has exclusive investigative jurisdiction in non-combat matters involving actual, potential, or suspected criminal, terrorism, sabotage, espionage, and subversive activities. As a SQL Database Administrator, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of our IT Technology Development division within the NCIS ITD organization in Quantico, VA. As the SQL DBA Administrator, you will manage all current and planned SQL Server databases that support our customer’s COTS applications. You will also be part of a team of systems administrators managing Windows Server 2016-2019, desktops, and printers. In addition: You will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of these databases. If additional databases are required in the future, the candidate will be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing those databases, including database creation, security, access, backup and recovery, and documentation. You must be experienced with applying STIGs to SQL Server databases and be familiar with the impacts on the related applications. You must have excellent documentation skills, and will be responsible for creating related standards, operating procedures, and security documentation.

  • Manage all current and planned SQL Server databases that support customer’s COTS applications.
  • Responsible for the operations and maintenance of SQL Server databases.
  • Design, plan, and implement additional databases as required.
  • Create, secure, and document database access, backup, and recovery procedures.
  • Apply STIGs to SQL Server databases and understand impacts on related applications.
  • Perform database monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and tuning.
  • Administer Microsoft SQL Server 2012-2019 and Microsoft SQL Reporting Services.
  • Monitor and maintain SQL Server databases on a day-to-day basis.
  • Develop, document, and apply procedures for database backup and recovery.
  • Participate in the analysis of database solutions.
  • Evaluate and install new software releases, patches, and system upgrades.
  • Identify and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Assist Tier 2 help desk with elevated issues.
  • Create and update user accounts in Active Directory.
  • Support the Certification and Accreditation process.
  • Document and maintain database security policies.
  • 5+ years of work experience administering MS SQL Server databases (SQL 2012 or newer).
  • Experience with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption in SQL Server.
  • Active Top Secret clearance required; must be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance once hired.
  • BS degree; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Active Top Secret clearance.
  • Experience with Microsoft Server 2016 or higher.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL 2016 -2019.
