Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years directly related experience.
  • NC and SC examining experience preferred.
  • State license(s) if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of legal description plotting.
  • Proficient with company operating systems.
  • Knowledge of legal terms helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare title commitments from provided title opinions.
  • Search public records and examine information of primarily commercial or industrial property, that will support the title opinion.
  • Copy or summarize recorded documents which affect the condition of title to the property.
  • Work with the title opinion attorney and customer on issues that are reported on the title opinion relying on their experience.
  • Perform title examination and examine the chain of title for a wide range of title orders, primarily commercial/residential within North and South Carolina.
  • Abstract and analyze records, such as leases, subleases, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics, and plot and map books.
  • Determine ownership and legal restrictions to verify legal description of property and completeness of records that may cross county lines.
  • Prepare initial title commitment documentation based on the application of procedural guidelines and provided attorney title opinion.
  • Resolve most issues such as missing information, incomplete, inaccurate or contradictory information contained in the title documentation.
  • Prepare and review reports for accuracy.
  • May provide underwriting interpretation within established guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
