About The Position

To plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their cognitive, physical, and social/emotional development. Reports to Principal and Preschool Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina Professional Educators license in Birth to Kindergarten Education (0-K).
  • North Carolina Birth-Kindergarten Teaching License (or License with Pre-K Add-on) or a degree in Early Childhood Education or related area that will qualify for licensure as a Teacher by North Carolina Department of Public Instruction
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in a recognized early childhood environment or licensed child care facility
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move approximately 40lbs.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, and kneeling are required.
  • Requires the ability to move quickly in a fast paced environment.
  • Compassionate about serving children using best practice techniques
  • Possess strong communication skills to build interpersonal relationships with students, staff and parents
  • Maintain student confidentiality
  • Experience using technology
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record and be punctual

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Creative Curriculum and Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale preferred

Responsibilities

  • Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, cognitive, and social development
  • Provide a developmentally-appropriate learning environment where children are free to explore, manipulate, and create
  • Arrange and maintain a safe indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play
  • Plan, create, and implement developmentally-appropriate lesson plans
  • Maintain staff/child ratio and visual supervision of children at all times
  • Monitor children’s behaviors and deescalate inappropriate behaviors using redirection and other developmentally- appropriate techniques; employs strategies to protect students from injury
  • Implement Individualized Educations Programs for children with identified needs
  • Comply at all times with applicable NC Child Care Regulations, NC Sanitation Guidelines, NC Fire and Building Codes, and Lenoir County Public Schools Standards
  • Maintain guidelines set forth by funding source, i.e. NC Pre-K, Three School, etc.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding children’s educational progress
  • Report all complaints of child abuse, neglect, or improper care to supervisor
  • Maintain positive communication with co-workers to create a professional atmosphere
  • Follow a plan for professional development and demonstrates evidence of growth
  • Carry out non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as needed
  • Coordinate and direct the activities of the Teacher Assistant
  • Perform other related work as required
