About The Position
The North Carolina Education Corps (NCEC) is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as Literacy Corps Members for the 2024-2025 school year. Launched in September 2020, NCEC aims to connect caring adults with students to eliminate barriers to opportunity and accelerate learning, particularly in the wake of challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a corps member, you will play a crucial role in supporting K-5 students in mastering foundational literacy skills through high-impact tutoring. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about education and committed to making a difference in the lives of young learners. As a Literacy Corps Member, you will work in-person at an assigned school within one of our partner districts or charter schools. Your primary responsibility will be to provide targeted tutoring to students, working with small groups of 1 to 3 students for 30-minute sessions at least three days a week. You will focus on the five pillars of reading: phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This role is not only impactful for the students but also offers a rewarding experience for corps members, as you will receive training and support from a dedicated NCEC learning coach throughout the school year. All corps members are required to participate in professional learning sessions during the school year, including a paid initial training upon employment. You will also have opportunities for ongoing professional development, coaching calls, and site visits to enhance your skills and effectiveness as a tutor. The position requires a commitment to serving students for the entire school year, from September through mid-May, and maintaining good standing with the partner school.
