Every K-5 Literacy tutor will positively impact student learning. To do this in the most efficient way possible, tutors will use an intervention curriculum quickly and confidently which requires adequate training on the intervention with ongoing lesson preparation and/or a scripted intervention curriculum. These positions provide K-5 students with supplemental support in literacy, in each school. Students will receive supplemental support from corps members during the following times at least 3 sessions a week, 30 minutes a session, 1 to 3 students in a group (up to 4 students with academic justification), with sufficient duration to master targeted skills. After you are hired by the school system, you will be onboarded into NC Education Corps and become a Corps Member. This work will support students with foundational skills. You will log each tutoring session into NCEC's digital tutoring log to ensure that tutoring data is available as schools monitor student's academic progress. All corps members (CMs) will participate in required professional learning during the 2025-2026 school year. Once employed, paid, online training will be required. In addition, CMs are offered the opportunity to opt into monthly professional development sessions from October through April. Additionally, each CM will participate in online and in-person coaching sessions provided by their NCEC learning coach throughout the year. Tutors will work 25-29 hours each week. This includes High-impact tutors beginning their employment with approximately two weeks of pre-service training, orientation, and classroom observation.
