About The Position

The primary function of the Navigational Advisor position in the WSU Student Success Center (SSC) is to provide support and outreach to prospective and current Weber State University students. This includes supporting students in navigating university processes and resources, setting goals, assessing areas of need, overcoming barriers and developing effective learning strategies and habits through academic coaching and developmental advising. The role supports daily operations and student support, reporting, and troubleshooting with stakeholders to ensure holistic coaching is provided using the university's chosen methodology in areas of development such as academic skills, major and career exploration, engagement, managing commitments, and well-being. The advisor collaborates with Academic Advisors across campus and other university stakeholders to support student success, utilizing tools such as the catalog, degree evaluations, graduation maps and transfer articulation resources to assist in academic exploration and planning. The advisor helps students understand policies and procedures, refers students to other WSU support services that can also help them achieve their academic goals, presents to groups on and off campus, conducts outreach to students through various university campaigns, supports outreach initiatives to increase retention and completion rates, partners with Student Success Center team members or campus partners to design academic programming, and supports and encourages participation in SSC student engagement programming. The advisor may also perform other duties as assigned. Periodic evening and weekend work may be required.
