About The Position

The Naval Science Instructor is responsible for managing the NJROTC program in accordance with NSTC M-5761.1A. This role includes preparing an annual budget for the school district and booster club, as well as monitoring the transportation fund for the unit provided through the school district. The instructor will interface with community organizations to provide assistance for special ceremonies, including Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and school-related activities such as homecoming and color guards for sports events. Additionally, the instructor will participate in semiannual planning meetings with JROTC instructors from around the state, plan yearly drill and rifle activities, and manage annual awards through various outside organizations. The Naval Science Instructor is also expected to participate in various summer activities, including leadership camps, sail camps, and CMP marksmanship camps.

Requirements

  • NJROTC Instructor Certification
  • At least 8 years of honorable service and achieved at least the rank of E-5 to be eligible for NJROTC instructor certification
  • JMIC marksmanship qualification

Nice To Haves

  • At least 20 years of active duty in the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard.
  • Retired or in Fleet Reserve status for no more than six years.
  • Hold an Associate's Degree or plan to earn one within five years.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a certification for driving school vehicles.
  • Manage the Midway USA Foundation account and keep accounts up to date.
  • Educate students on the naval science curriculum and classroom management.
  • Organize and plan classroom studies throughout the year.
  • Instruct cadets in military drill.
  • Mentor and counsel students.
  • Manage government-furnished equipment like uniforms and training aids.
  • Plan extracurricular activities, such as drill teams and field trips.
  • Keep up with Navy developments and complete the required training.
