About The Position

TSI is hiring a Naval Aviation Avionics Subject Matter Expert to support MH-60R helicopter training development work, which the defense industry staffs under titles such as Aviation Maintenance Technician SME, Avionics Training Specialist, and Naval Aviation Systems Instructor. TSI supports a Naval aviation training analysis and evaluation program, developing and validating curriculum for MH-60R and MH-60S organizational and intermediate-level maintenance training. The work directly supports the quality and effectiveness of training that keeps fleet helicopters mission-ready. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority on MH-60R avionics systems, validating instructional objectives, confirming training device applicability, and ensuring the curriculum accurately reflects fleet maintenance procedures that shape how the next generation of naval aviation technicians is trained.

Requirements

  • U.S. Navy AE (Aviation Electrician's Mate) or AT (Aviation Electronics Technician) rating with 8 or more years of Naval aviation service on rotary-wing platforms.
  • Demonstrated organizational or intermediate-level maintenance experience on MH-60R, MH-60S, or equivalent rotary-wing aircraft, with direct familiarity with MH-60 avionics systems including controls and displays, AFCS, and data handling systems.
  • At least one formal Naval aviation maintenance instructor tour — A School (NATTC), CNATTU, or FRS duty.
  • Demonstrated MH-60R or rotary-wing platform experience independent of instructor tour history.
  • Working knowledge of NAMP (COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2), NATOPS, and NAVAIR technical publication standards sufficient to evaluate whether training objectives align with applicable procedures.
  • Ability to communicate technical maintenance requirements clearly to non-maintenance stakeholders, including instructional designers, program managers, and government clients.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active Secret security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Direct MH-60R maintenance instructor experience at HSM-40, a CNATTU detachment, or an operational HSM/HSC squadron in a training coordinator or on-the-job training (OJT) supervisor role.
  • Familiarity with OOMA, NALCOMIS, or NTMPS as used in fleet MH-60 squadron maintenance operations.
  • Prior experience supporting instructional systems design (ISD) processes, curriculum review panels, or training program evaluations in a Naval aviation context.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification or equivalent technical credentialing (desired but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate training learning objectives against MH-60R avionics system technical publications and fleet maintenance procedures, confirming accuracy and feasibility before curriculum development proceeds.
  • Assess whether specific objectives can be effectively supported by available training devices, including the Avionics Maintenance Trainer (AMT), Auxiliary Relay Panel trainers, Crew Hover Control Panel Trainer, and related hardware.
  • Advise instructional design teams on recommended delivery methods (instructor-led, blended, virtual), class time allocations, and content type classifications for avionics-related course objectives.
  • Identify gaps between published learning objectives and current fleet maintenance practices, recommending revisions that reflect NAMP updates, airworthiness directives, and operational changes.
  • Serve as technical reviewer for draft training materials, job aids, and instructor guides covering MH-60R controls and displays, data handling systems, automatic flight control systems (AFCS), and electrical subsystems.
  • Coordinate with government stakeholders, program managers, and instructional designers to resolve technical questions and confirm SME-flagged objectives.
  • Support curriculum validation events, course reviews, and training device assessments as the platform's subject matter authority.
  • Apply knowledge of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series (NAMP), NATOPS, and applicable MH-60R NAVAIR technical manuals to all review activities.
