About The Position

Naturalist Aides assist in educating the public and conducting programs, including children's nature camps, field trip programs, nature walks, special events, and front desk duties. They also assist with the care of animal ambassadors, including feeding and cleaning the enclosures of reptiles, amphibians, and fish. Naturalist aides must work effectively in a team environment with park staff and volunteers, positively represent the park district, and communicate clearly with park visitors and program participants. Location: Variable. Naturalist Aides will be based out of the French Creek Nature Center but will be assigned to various parks throughout the Lorain County Metro Park District for summer camps and events. Rate of Pay: $12.50 - $15.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Interested applicants should apply and submit a résumé by Friday, March 13, 2026.

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary education (high school diploma or GED)
  • Excellent visitor service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with children in a leadership role
  • Experience caring for live animals such as snakes and turtles
  • Availability on weekends and evenings
  • Willingness to work outside in all types of weather
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and walk up to 6 miles in a day
  • Ability to regularly travel to parks throughout Lorain County
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and complete a background check
  • Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy prohibits hiring new employees who are tobacco users

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of college in the field of natural resources, education, environmental science or a related field is preferred.
