The Natural Resources Operations Technician II is responsible for operating, adjusting, servicing, and repairing heavy equipment used in various construction and maintenance projects for the Department of Environmental Management. This role involves maintaining public access improvements, conducting habitat management activities, and ensuring the proper functioning of specialized mechanical equipment for vegetation management. The technician will work with a variety of heavy construction equipment and may occasionally supervise subordinates.

  • Operate, adjust, service, and repair heavy equipment for construction and maintenance projects.
  • Maintain chainsaws, landscaping implements, welding units, and general construction equipment.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of public access improvements.
  • Conduct habitat management activities using specialized mechanical equipment.
  • Repair or replace engines, drive trains, tracks, and other components of heavy equipment.
  • Grade roads, parking lots, and paths with minimal supervision.
  • Keep records and make written or oral reports.
  • Supervise subordinates assigned to perform skilled maintenance tasks.
  • Completion of 2 years of high school, including courses in mechanics and vehicle repair.
  • At least two years of experience in operating, repairing, and maintaining heavy diesel and gasoline motor equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and prepare simple records.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to perform repairs on heavy equipment.
  • Experience with fish stocking and biological data collection.
  • Familiarity with general construction and maintenance methods.
