About The Position

The Natural Resources Intern supports the division by assisting and aiding Forestry activities and management of natural areas. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact include identifying, prioritizing and performing invasive species removal including herbicide treatments in natural areas. The intern will assist with planning and implementing restoration projects and plant surveys, respond to noxious weed/tall grass complaints by inspecting, documenting and mailing notifications, and maintain records using Field Maps (ArcGIS). Additionally, the intern will assist with planning and implementation of environmental volunteer events including tree plantings, invasive species removal, and harvesting native prairie seed. The role also involves aiding in Forestry activities such as the diseased tree program, maintaining newly planted and young trees, and tree inventory. While these areas are the primary focus of this position, teamwork is emphasized, and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as part of their role with the City.
