About The Position

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Natural Resources Director to lead our primarily Florida based team of ecologists, biologists, planners, and regulatory compliance professionals, supporting projects across Florida and neighboring southeastern states. This role requires exceptional leadership skills and professional judgment to oversee project delivery, advance business development, serve clients, and continue building a high performing and engaged team. The Natural Resources Director will report to the Florida Senior Office Director and collaborate closely with leaders across the Southeast Sub Region and the broader SWCA organization. This is a regular, full time, salaried position. The ideal candidate will be based in our Jacksonville, Tampa, Gainesville, or Pensacola office and will have the opportunity for hybrid employment, with an expectation of working on site three to four days per week to support collaboration, mentorship, and team development. Travel will be required to engage clients, partner with office and regional leadership, and support staff development, based on business needs. The Florida natural resources practice is a key growth market for SWCA and a center of technical excellence known for high quality work, strong regulatory expertise, and outstanding client service. Our team supports complex projects across Florida and the southeast in several markets. Key markets for our Florida team include energy development (oil & gas, electric generation, and transmission), state and local agencies, water resources, and land development. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the environmental services SWCA provides, including biology, planning, environmental regulatory compliance, or related environmental and planning disciplines
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of cumulative experience in environmental or natural resource management consulting, including oversight of fieldwork and report preparation, supervision and mentoring of professional and administrative staff, and project scheduling and budgeting
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including supervising and providing guidance to other professionals
  • Proven success leading teams of environmental or natural resource professionals
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to environmental, natural, or cultural resources in Florida and the southeastern United States
  • Familiarity with the environmental consulting market in Florida and the Southeast
  • Knowledge of or experience supporting key business lines including energy, state and local government clients, and water resources projects
  • Experience leading natural resources teams across multiple projects, clients, and states
  • Demonstrated success in business development and consulting, including proposal development and established credibility with federal and state agencies and clients
  • Ability to work in an office based or hybrid environment, with an expectation of working on site three to four days per week to support collaboration and business objectives
  • Ability to travel as needed, approximately 25% percent of the time

Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a large, diverse, multi discipline team of natural resource scientists, NEPA planners, project managers, and technical experts supporting local, state, and federal regulatory permitting
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, quality service, and client focus aligned with SWCA’s core values
  • Mentor and develop employees while building and sustaining a strong mentorship culture across all levels of the organization
  • Support talent attraction, retention, engagement, and career development across the Florida team
  • Partner with the Florida Senior Office Director and Sub Regional leaders to align team goals with regional and company objectives
  • Lead and support client relationships and business development initiatives across Florida and the Southeast
  • Share responsibility for business development, quality of deliverables, achievement of sales and productivity goals, and long-term client relationships
  • Collaborate with business development teams to align market pursuits with operational capabilities
  • Contribute to internal strategy aligned with regional and corporate growth plans
  • Guide the planning, monitoring, and long-term financial success of the team through review of weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial performance and key performance indicators
  • Contribute to annual business plans and quarterly forecasts
  • Partner with project managers and leadership to ensure efficient resource allocation and successful project delivery
  • Support continuous improvement through project reviews and performance analysis
  • Provide leadership for project execution, quality assurance and quality control processes, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate closely with technical teams across the Southeast, including cultural resources and engineering, as well as teams throughout the company
  • Promote adherence to SWCA quality standards, safety culture, and best practices
  • Advance scientific excellence through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technical leadership
