About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Assistant Manager of Natural Areas and Restoration, this position will support the maintenance and development of natural areas and restoration sites. The duties of this position include seeding, transplanting, weed control, small-medium equipment operation, and watering. This position will focus on addressing issues/problems by applying prescribed rules, policies, or procedures.

Requirements

Working knowledge of Colorado native plants and noxious weeds.
Knowledge of the cultural requirements of herbaceous and woody plants.
Knowledge in all aspects of routine landscape maintenance, including but not limited to planting, pruning, watering, weed identification, and control.
Ability to care for plant collections through appropriate ecological practices, and to complete specific tasks as directed by supervisor.
Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans, when necessary, throughout the day.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
Ability to work overtime as necessary.
Must be a positive representative of the Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
Must be committed to working safely at all times.
High school diploma / GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
Minimum of 1 years of experience in Horticulture, Restoration, Natural Areas, or Open Space maintenance setting.
Experience with all landscape hand tools and basic machinery.

Responsibilities

Uses appropriate techniques to maintain natural areas and assist with restoration processes on site.
Uses appropriate safety procedures.
Completes assigned daily/weekly/monthly tasks including but not limited to, mulching, seeding, transplanting, watering, mowing, irrigation repair, dead heading, and seed collection.
Practices Integrated Pest Management when dealing with plant disease, nutrition, and insect problems.
Maintains pathway and common areas to keep free of weeds, debris, and litter.
Works with on-going volunteers and occasionally leads volunteer groups.
Provides various support for research projects on site.
Supplies the supervisor with plant related documentation as necessary.
Maintains satisfactory working relationships with all departments, managers, co-workers, volunteers, and others to ensure highest quality experience for all Denver Botanic Gardens visitors.
Maintains a positive, helpful, and solution-oriented demeanor when responding to or serving members and visitors, providing courteous, accurate responses to all inquiries.
Participates in special events as needed, including but not limited to Lavender Festival, Pumpkin Festival, Corn Maze, Trail of Lights, and concerts. Duties may include but not limited to assisting with set-up, teardown, and cleanup and snow removal.
Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.
