About The Position

The Native American Student Services (NASS) Coordinator provides day-to-day leadership and coordination of services, programs, and student support initiatives serving Native American and Indigenous students at Idaho State University. Reporting to the Director of Tribal Relations, the NASS Coordinator plays a central role in creating a welcoming, culturally responsive student center; supporting student engagement, persistence and graduation, and connecting students with campus resources that promote academic and personal success. This position is student-facing and operations-focused, grounded in relationship-building, advocacy, and holistic student support. The NASS Coordinator works closely with partners across Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, and other campus units while maintaining a clear focus on student engagement and success. Reporting Structure: The NASS Coordinator reports to the Director of Tribal Relations. While the Director of Tribal Relations focuses on institutional, government-to-government, and community-based relationships, the NASS Coordinator is responsible for the internal operation of the Native American Student Services Center and direct student support functions. This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited Institution.
  • Two (2) years Experience in student services, advising, program coordination, or community-based work.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and rapport with students.
  • Experience working with Native American, Indigenous, or Tribal communities.
  • Strong project management, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a student-centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Native American and Indigenous students seeking support and connection.
  • Foster a welcoming, culturally grounded environment within the Native American Student Services Center.
  • Provide guidance and referrals related to academic advising, tutoring, financial aid, scholarships, and student wellbeing.
  • Assist students navigating university systems and connect them to appropriate campus offices and services.
  • Coordinate student success programming focused on retention, persistence, and graduation.
  • Support and advise the Native American Student Council (NASC) and other Native student-led initiatives.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of cultural, educational, and community-building events in collaboration with campus partners including but not limited to Indigenous Peoples’ Day and the ISU Powwow.
  • Track participation and outcomes to inform program assessment and continuous improvement.
  • Develop, oversee, and prepare program budgets, budget summaries, and financial reports.
  • Manage daily operations of the Native American Student Services Center.
  • Coordinate scheduling, space use, and communication within the Center.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Support a safe, respectful, and student-focused environment.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Admissions, Financial Aid, and other campus partners to support Native student success.
  • Participate in campus committees and initiatives as they relate to student services and engagement.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Tribal Relations to align student support efforts with broader institutional priorities.
  • Provide staff and logistical support to the Tribal University Advisory Board (TUAB), including meeting coordination, scheduling, materials preparation, follow-up and administrative support to the TUAB co-chairs.
