About The Position

Skydio is seeking a hands-on, customer-facing Solutions Engineer to serve as the Dock Subject Matter Expert for our Federal and Defense customers. This is a sales-aligned technical role responsible for winning technical validation, deploying dock-based autonomous systems, and ensuring successful operation across compliant cloud and on-premise environments. You will partner with Federal Sales to lead technical discovery, validate deployment architectures, and prove system performance through demonstrations, proofs-of-concept, and field deployments. You should be comfortable operating both in front of senior government stakeholders and alongside engineers and operators in field environments. The role requires strong familiarity with government acquisition processes and the delivery of complex technical systems under contract. As Skydio advances toward large-scale dock deployments and browser-based remote operations, this role serves as a critical bridge between customers and Skydio’s Product and Engineering teams. You will represent the customer’s needs internally while ensuring deployments are viable, secure, scalable, and supportable. This position reports into the Solutions Engineering organization and partners closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Success to deliver autonomous systems on schedule and to specification.

Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 70 percent of the time
  • FAA Part 107 certification or ability to obtain
  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance, or the ability to obtain
  • This role will be driving the development of products for our military customers, and is subject to a government contract that requires Skydio to limit this position to candidates with US Citizenship.   • 3+ years supporting cloud-connected or on-premise hardware and software systems
  • Strong hands-on experience with WiFi, cellular, and IP networking, including troubleshooting connectivity issues
  • Familiarity with compliant cloud environments, on-premise deployments, and secure data handling
  • Experience installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining hardware systems in customer environments
  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems and mechanical or robotic platforms
  • Proven ability to implement new technology and coordinate with technical teams to deliver on customer schedules
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with comfort presenting to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Experience working directly with customers through proactive, metrics-based engagement
  • Comfortable working outdoors, at height, and performing physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs and climbing ladders

Nice To Haves

  • Basic scripting or software integration experience
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs and customer integrations
  • Experience with commercial or government autonomous aircraft systems
  • Cloud or infrastructure certifications
  • Degrees in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical fields
  • Experience bridging operators and engineers, with credibility in both field deployments and technical discussions

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success to win technical validation and define deployment success criteria
  • Serve as the Dock subject matter expert for Skydio’s autonomous systems operating in cloud and on-premise environments
  • Lead system demonstrations, proofs-of-concept, and field trials, including hands-on dock installation, configuration, operation, and troubleshooting
  • Deploy and support dock-based hardware and software, ensuring systems are installed, tested, configured, and delivering value as agreed
  • Design, deploy, and troubleshoot compliant cloud, on-premise, WiFi, cellular, and IP networking architectures
  • Communicate directly with customers to understand requirements, address issues, and manage expectations
  • Act as the customer’s technical representative internally, coordinating with Product, Engineering, and Sales to resolve issues and fulfill requests
  • Track and manage deployment and implementation efforts for federal customers
  • Quantify product feedback and brief internal stakeholders to influence software, hardware, and deployment improvements
  • Build scalable deployment processes for dock installations on secure government networks
  • Support customer onboarding, training, and early operational use to drive long-term adoption and expansion
  • Support executive briefings, customer reviews, and go-to-market activities as required
