The role involves critical action items and measurable deliverables, including meeting federal and state regulatory guidelines, identifying trends and training needs, and making decisions affecting the safety and permanence of children served. The safety specialist will also monitor cases to ensure children progress toward risk reduction and achieve treatment goals.

  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that apply to this position.
  • Identify trends and training needs and develop training with the Mental Health Specialist and National Safety Officer.
  • Make decisions affecting the safety and permanence of children served in consultation with the National Safety Officer and Mental Health Specialist.
  • Monitor cases to ensure staff engage each child and the family/sponsor in the caseload.
  • Ensure that children progress toward risk reduction and achieve treatment goals and positive case outcomes.
  • Monitor staff records, files, forms, statistics, and information in the children’s records to comply with agency, federal, and state standards.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, in-service training, and team decisions.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed or requested by the position supervisor.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in Compass Connections' employee handbook.
  • Serve as part of the National Safety Team.
  • Participate in case staffing with the national team, along with the National Safety Officer and Mental Health Specialist.
  • Oversee all federal reporting related to Notices of Concern and significant incidents.
  • Elevate all reports related to minors in crisis and ensure comprehensive safety plans are in place for all unaccompanied children.
  • Meet all deadlines required by program supervisor and federal partners.
  • Recommend interventions to ensure the safety of the children and families served.
  • Must be fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, human services, or social services required.
  • Master’s degree in behavioral sciences, human services, or social services preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of progressive employment experience in case management and child welfare experience working with immigrant populations.
  • First aid, CPR, and Emergency behavior intervention certifications.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
  • Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, and professionals.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and maintain emotional control and professional composure.
  • Organize and prioritize responsibilities and duties efficiently.
  • Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
  • Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Compass Connections policies and procedures.
