The National Field Head, US Medical, Specialty will help drive a high performing MSL organization in alignment with therapeutic area and pipeline assets and customer strategy. The incumbent will be accountable for ensuring the teams:: perform against priority activities, possess a high level of scientific expertise and knowledge, support therapeutic area strategies, collect, and translate high quality medical voice of customer (mVOC), and understand the US healthcare environment and its impact on various customer segments (HCPs, Payers, Health Systems, etc.). They will also be accountable for medical governance and compliance for their team therapeutic areas they are assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD, PharmD or physician (M.D. or equivalent).
  • Seven or more years of experience designing and delivering field medical affairs brand plans; coordinating medical engagement activities.
  • Five or more years of experience working in a specialty therapy area, treatment options and patient care.
  • Eight or more years of pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Five or more years in a field medical management role.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the key medical/scientific experts within the hepatology and immunology field.
  • Ten or more years of pharmaceutical industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development of a high-performance team. Includes hiring, recruiting, ongoing performance and talent assessment and development for the leadership of LT.
  • Partner with US Specialty Therapeutic Area Head (TAH) to develop and execute field medical strategy for assigned medical assets along with relevant Therapeutic Area Leadership team and Global Medical Partners.
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction to MSL directors as they drive MSL activities (including scientific exchange, and collaborative research) within the therapeutic area.
  • Make prioritization decisions to align with therapeutic area and customer needs and shift resources accordingly. Ensure External Experts lists are appropriate, and that field team resources are being deployed against high priority activities and customers.
  • Serve as strategic partner to USMA Specialty TAH for launch preparation plans and activities with a particular emphasis on external engagement.
  • Ensure consistency with implementation of key foundational processes for MSL directors as appropriate to meet business objectives and customer needs.
  • Develop an organization that will contribute to overall USMA excellence and Product Development and ensure teams possess full understanding of the evolving health care environment and key customer segments.
  • In partnership with the USMA Specialty Therapy Area Head, accountable for ongoing validation of MSL resourcing and deployment model for assigned teams across the Specialty TA (priority accounts, territories, territory assignments, territory sizes, EE identification and coverage, time for MSL activities); Accountable for developing and overseeing the therapeutic area organization budget and resources to within acceptable variance of GSK projections.
  • Gather feedback on organization and contribute to the design/development/planning of innovative solutions; Lead and develop systems to maintain standards and ensure compliance with the FDA and any similar regulatory or GSK processes.
  • Accountable for ensuring all Governance/Monitoring/Compliance objectives are met and adhered to. Ensure a “Speak Up” culture that encourages open dialogue within the field medical Organization to maintain a high integrity working environment.
  • Leads the organization aligned with GSK culture being Ambitious for Patients, Accountable for Impact, and Doing the Right Thing.
  • Establish and maintain robust Matrix Partnerships to ensure strategic alignment, sharing of best practices, standardization where appropriate, and visibility to the performance of the organization.
