About The Position

The National Director, Operations - Specialty is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and effective patient care through all operational aspects in multiple Centers of Excellence (COE) Specialty Pharmacy Operations while meeting all corporate compliance and other established rules and regulations governing the healthcare industry. The role is directly accountable for driving market development and financial performance while providing direct oversight for all operations in multiple branches including pharmacy dispensing and execution of clinical programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Healthcare Administration, Supply Chain, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in specialty pharmacy or healthcare operations
  • Deep knowledge of specialty pharmacy workflows, distribution models, and regulatory requirement
  • Experience with national accreditation bodies and leading audit readiness initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of logistics and supply chain management in the healthcare/pharmacy sector.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a complex, multi-site environment.
  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers, including meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Experience evaluating information to determine compliance with standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Basic level skill in Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willing to travel at least 40% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Nice To Haves

  • PharmD or advanced degree (MBA, MHA) strongly preferred
  • Experience leading multi-site sales and/or operations in Home Health Care or Infusion.
  • Experience working with payer networks, HUB services, or specialty pharmaceutical manufacturer

Responsibilities

  • Provide national leadership for specialty pharmacy operations, ensuring standardization, efficiency, and best-in-class service delivery.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize workflows, turnaround times, and service levels across all operational areas.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or other performance improvement methodologies.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of specialty product distribution and cold chain logistics across all channels (home delivery, specialty hubs, etc.).
  • Partner with 3PL providers, couriers, and internal logistics teams to ensure cost-effective and compliant shipping solutions.
  • Ensure operations meet and exceed requirements of accrediting bodies (e.g., URAC, ACHC, NABP, The Joint Commission).
  • Maintain full compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations (FDA, DEA, CMS, Board of Pharmacy, etc.).
  • Lead readiness efforts for audits, inspections, and renewals related to licensure and accreditation.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define operational goals, KPIs, and long-term strategies.
  • Analyze performance data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Evaluate and implement technology solutions to automate and streamline pharmacy operations (e.g., dispensing systems, logistics tracking, inventory platforms).
  • Partner with IT, data analytics, and product development teams to drive digital transformation.
  • Lead and develop high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and succession planning for operational leaders at regional and national levels.
  • Oversees operational performance of all assigned branches including efficient, effective and high quality delivery of services and patient care.
  • Ensures patient safety and satisfaction through all operations including pharmacy dispensing operations and nursing.
  • Ensures error proofing for pick, pack and ship operations.
  • Drives financial performance of all branches through supply chain/inventory optimization, managing controllable expenses, reducing bad debt (claims on hold) and accurate patient registration and onboarding.
  • Ensures compliance with local and federal regulations, accreditation standards and corporate policies to drive effectiveness and consistency in operations.
  • Builds a cohesive, service-oriented team through recruitment, training and development, engagement and retention of qualified team members.
  • Maintains a work environment in which staff will succeed and grow in their professional development and contribute to the overall success of Option Care.
  • Manage multiple locations or a single location with combined revenue over $40 million dollars.
