About The Position

The National Director US Field Medical at Ultragenyx is a pivotal role for an experienced medical affairs professional tasked with leading a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) focused on advancing and potentially commercializing an investigational therapy for Osteogenesis Imperfecta. This position emphasizes strategic planning, team management, and effective communication of scientific information to healthcare professionals, aiming to change the future of rare disease medicine. The Director will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to execute the Field Medical plan and ensure successful engagement with key opinion leaders (KOLs).

Requirements

  • Advanced clinical/science degree required (e.g. PharmD, PhD, MD or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL), or 5 years of combined MSL and other relevant experience, with at least 2 years of managerial experience leading MSLs or clinical teams.
  • Experience launching an investigational therapy in the United States.
  • Prior experience in rare disease is preferred.
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations regarding product promotion and scientific exchange.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written, verbal, and face-to-face communications to influence decision-making.
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills with the ability to develop team members.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships quickly.
  • Strategic thinking and knowledge of business practices and medical practices to create team strategies.
  • Project management skills to manage multiple competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to make effective business decisions under tight deadlines and changing circumstances.
  • High ethical and performance standards in all business contacts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Field Medical Affairs field-based team, ensuring proficiency in MSL duties and providing coaching and performance management.
  • Execute the Field Medical team KOL engagement strategy and tactical plan in alignment with the US Field Lead and other Medical Affairs functions.
  • Lead the reporting of post-congress reports and medical insights that contribute to product launch and future research efforts.
  • Track and implement relevant metrics for product launch and MSL activities.
  • Identify, establish, and maintain long-term scientific relationships with KOLs, connecting them to internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute US territory and KOL engagement plans for impactful scientific engagement and education.
  • Document KOL's scientific viewpoints on Ultragenyx's medical positions on rare diseases.
  • Provide balanced clinical presentations and medical information in response to unsolicited questions in various settings.
  • Identify and assess research opportunities and support evidence generation plans.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Operations to enhance patient enrollment in clinical trials by identifying appropriate sites and interacting with investigators.
  • Represent Ultragenyx at scientific conferences, engaging with KOLs and collating scientific data insights.
