About The Position

CACI is seeking a highly motivated Systems and Project Engineer to join the Gateway Vehicle Systems Manager (VSM) Mission Operations sub-team. This is a critical role developing, implementing, testing advanced data products including autonomous system management tasks, algorithms, functional and data interfaces, and certifying them to be ready for flight on the for the Lunar Gateway mission. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with NASA engineers, application and product developers, commercial partners, and international partners to develop applications and certify flight data products and documentation, contributing directly to the future of deep space human exploration. This exciting position includes defining release content, planning, prioritizing and directing development and verification activities, monitoring and reporting progress metrics. The Gateway in lunar orbit will support astronaut habitation and allow easy access to the lunar surface for exploration. Gateway will also provide a test bed for development of planetary exploration spacecraft technologies. This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, and be flexible/willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing future human-rated space vehicles. This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • B.S. in Aerospace, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • 3+ years’ experience in systems engineering and integration, working with stakeholders across multiple organizations and with various backgrounds.
  • Experience working with configuration managed documentation for aerospace flight projects or related projects.
  • Ability to work in an Agile development environment, with rapidly evolving schedules and work priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem identification and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.
  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. in Aerospace, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Work experience in aerospace software and systems engineering projects.
  • Aerospace flight software / flight data product certification experience.
  • Systems Modeling Language (SysML) modeling experience, using tools such as MagicDraw and Cameo.
  • Experience managing development projects, preferably software development.
  • Experience with NASA software requirements.
  • Experience with NASA and Federal Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

Responsibilities

  • Flight Software Data Product Development: Lead the development, review, and testing of autonomous task descriptions, procedures, and software interfaces for the Lunar Gateway, collaborating with application developers, flight operations teams and subject matter experts across various disciplines (e.g., Environmental Control and Life Support, Guidance, Navigation, and Control, Thermal) to ensure effective autonomous task planning and execution.
  • Flight Software Data Product Certification: Lead the certification efforts of autonomy data products for the Lunar Gateway, ensuring that the data products meet NASA requirements to be ready for flight on the Lunar Gateway mission.
  • Partner Coordination: Support interface and system autonomy requirements discussions and data product reviews with all international and commercial partners involved in the Lunar Gateway program.
  • System Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive integrated control agreement documentation in Systems Modeling Language (SysML); lead and oversee maintenance of documentation on data products and development and certification processes and tools.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential operational risks and vulnerabilities associated with autonomous systems and collaborate with the team to develop mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to determine software release content.
