CACI is looking for an experienced Software Systems Engineer to perform design and integration for the Lunar Gateway’s Vehicle Systems Manager (VSM) Flight Software and its interfaces to visiting vehicles. This exciting position includes collaborating with Logistics, HLS and Orion programs to mature and document software, network and radio frequency interfaces between spacecraft. The Gateway in lunar orbit will support scientific research, astronaut habitation, and allow easy access to the lunar surface for exploration. Gateway will also provide a test bed for development of planetary exploration spacecraft technologies. This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, and be flexible/willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing future human-rated space vehicles. This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

  • Monitor and assist the integration of Gateway with Visiting Vehicles (VVs) including the Logistics Module (LM), Orion, and Human Lander System spacecraft.
  • Develop and release Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for Gateway Flight Software to VVs (Crewed and Uncrewed).
  • Monitor and support updates to the Visiting Vehicle Interface Requirements Document (IRD).
  • Support the integration of algorithms for coordinated control of the Gateway Stack.
  • Monitor and support development of network communications across Gateway.
  • Support development and implementation of Caution and Warning alert identification and notification across Gateway.
  • Monitor and support development and implementation of Bilateral Verifications between Gateway and VVs.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to facilitate access to USG facilities.
  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines required.
  • Experience with Avionics, Networks, and Software systems.
  • Experience with integration of distributed Flight Software systems.
  • Software systems engineering experience including development of ICDs and IRDs.
  • Evidence of success in highly collaborative projects/environments.
  • Ability to succeed in fast-paced environments.
  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment.
  • Possess technical expertise combined with verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with some supervision.
  • Must be a responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
  • Must have well developed coordination and organization skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Five or more years of software development experience.
  • Experience with Agile software development environments and methodologies.
  • Experience with software testing.
  • Experience with network communication protocols including Time Triggered Ethernet, Best Effort
  • Experience with NASA’s Core Flight Software (cFS) framework.
  • Experience with data driven software systems.
  • Experience with distributed complex systems.
  • Experience with Sharepoint, Confluence, and Jira.
  • Experience using GitLab and the Git version control system.
  • Experience in automated testing, including developing unit, integration, and verification tests.
  • Experience with EITHER: Autonomous or remotely controlled systems (e.g., used in satellites, autonomous cars, or unmanned aerial vehicles), OR Avionics and flight software development for human-rated space vehicles, e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, or Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle.
  • Experience in the full life cycle of human-rated space vehicle flight projects. (e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, Orion, or Lunar Gateway).
