About The Position

Oxford Nanopore Technologies is seeking a senior, field-based commercial professional to own and expand adoption of Oxford Nanopore sequencing across the Mountain West. This role is ideal for an experienced account executive who thrives in complex scientific sales environments and is motivated by winning in competitive markets while helping customers adopt technologies that meaningfully change how science is done. You will be responsible for driving growth of the GridION and PromethION platforms across academic, government, large biotech, and clinical research-focused organizations. Success in this role requires strategic account planning, technical fluency, and the ability to guide customers through sophisticated evaluation and purchasing processes. This is a remote, field-based position. Candidates must be based in Denver, CO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of field-based commercial experience, including at least 3 years selling scientific instrumentation, high-technology platforms, or complex laboratory solutions OR relevant inside sales or distribution experience with Oxford Nanopore technology or in the NGS market
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, consultative sales processes in competitive environments
  • Strong understanding of the sales cycle, forecasting, and CRM systems
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently within a matrixed, international organization
  • Commercially astute, with experience working to budgets and performance targets
  • Established professional relationships with scientific and operational stakeholders within the assigned territory
  • Motivated by competition, accountability, and winning business through preparation, insight, and persistence

Responsibilities

  • Territory & Account Ownership Own commercial responsibility for a defined, high-potential territory. Develop and execute strategic account plans to expand instrument placement, drive consumables pull-through and grow long-term customer value.
  • Complex Sales Execution Manage and direct sophisticated sales cycles involving capital equipment, applications development, and ongoing supply agreements. Engage effectively with diverse stakeholder groups including principal investigators, core facility directors, procurement, institutional leadership, and commercial and translational research teams within large biotech and clinical research environments.
  • Biotech & Clinical Research Account Development Develop and grow strategic relationships within large biotech organizations and clinical research-focused institutions, supporting platform adoption for discovery, translational, and pre-clinical research applications.
  • Competitive Positioning Position Nanopore sequencing effectively within competitive NGS environments by articulating differentiated value and aligning solutions to customer research goals.
  • Customer Relationship Management Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and influential researchers across a broad range of research disciplines. Support reference site development and long-term customer success.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Coordinate territory activities with Inside Sales Account Manager, Field Applications Scientist, Clinical Sales Specialist, and Marketing colleagues to ensure consistent, high-quality customer engagement.
  • Pipeline & Forecast Management Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline using consultative selling methodologies. Deliver accurate forecasting and maintain timely CRM updates, funnel reporting, and competitive intelligence.
  • Results-Driven Execution Pursue growth opportunities with urgency and discipline, demonstrating resilience and focus within competitive sales situations while working toward clearly defined performance objectives.
  • Market Engagement Participate in and support regional seminars, workshops, and conferences to strengthen Oxford Nanopore’s visibility and scientific credibility within the territory.
  • Training & Compliance Participate fully in required training programs and demonstrate proficiency as assessed. Manage administrative responsibilities including expense management, reporting, and adherence to company policies and applicable safety standards.
