Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is searching for a Nanofabrication Equipment Technician to work in the Claire and John Bertucci Nanotechnology Laboratory (a.k.a. the Nanofab), a premier research facility in Western Pennsylvania and the “Tech- Belt” (PA-OH-WV) region. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will have the opportunity to work in a cleanroom environment and contribute to the department by maintaining, operating, and repairing semiconductor process equipment and laboratory facilities under the supervision of the Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent education.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in relevant area (electrical and/or mechanical background preferred).
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all laboratory and University safety regulations.
  • Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing the Nanofabrication Facility and equipment.
  • Assist Nanofab staff with maintenance and repairs.
  • Install new equipment and modify existing equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain lab part and supply inventories, identify new and replacement parts, and order lab supplies.
  • Maintain the Nanofab garment inventory and ensure timely rotation of garments.
  • Perform cleaning and lab maintenance to maintain cleanroom cleanliness standards.
  • Assist with the training and monitoring of work study students performing both administrative and lab maintenance tasks.
  • Train Nanofab users, staff, and others on equipment operation and lab procedures.
  • Create, maintain, and assist with documentation of lab procedures, maintenance procedures, lab forms, and equipment logs.
