About The Position

Responsible for organizing and carrying out structured learning processes for students to attain the objectives of each course, for evaluating students and reporting progress as required by the institution, and for periodic review and updating of course materials. The Gulf Coast Work Ready Program Instructor reports to the MGCCC Gulf Coast Work Ready / West Harrison Center Dean and follows policies set forth by MGCCC and the MS Board of Cosmetology to ensure college and state policies and standards are met.

Requirements

  • Must have active MS Cosmetology instructor license.
  • Must be in good standing with MS Board of Cosmetology.
  • Minimum of two years Nail Technology experience.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Employment experience in a nail or cosmetology salon in a supervisory position.
  • Associate's degree.
  • Multi-media instructional delivery experience.
  • Proficient with computer - Microsoft Office, internet, email.
  • Ability to function in a team-teaching environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for teaching, exhibiting the skills and knowledge necessary for the role of a Nail Technology and Esthetics Instructor to include areas of respect for self and others, collegiality, ethical behavior, ethical reasoning, and strong work ethic (including responsibility, dependability, and accountability).
  • Plans and teaches Nail Technology and Esthetics classes in afternoon/evening scheduling.
  • Serve as a professional and academic role model while establishing and upholding a climate conducive to learning.
  • Aids in the development of curricula, including course syllabi as assigned and preparing assignments as needed ensuring policies of MGCCC and the MS Board of Cosmetology are adhered.
  • Evaluates student performance and learning and maintains required student progress records.
  • Assigns grades consistent with course requirements.
  • Demonstrates teaching effectiveness, professional service, professional responsibilities, and professional development.
  • Adheres to college policy pertaining to class schedule and office hours including: (a) teaching all classes at the scheduled evening time (unless otherwise arranged), (b) holding classes for the full period, establishing office hours, (d) making time available for student conferences, and (e) posting a schedule of office/classroom hours designating a minimum of forty hours/week.
  • Counsels students when necessary to ensure effective guidance and/or refers students to appropriate college services as needed.
  • Attends all faculty meetings called by designated MGCCC administrator.
  • Participates in regular bi-annual advisory council meetings as scheduled.
  • Accepts and performs all duties to the best of his/her ability and maintains professional credentials.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of classroom equipment in program area and assists with inventory of the same.
  • Participates in accreditation activities for the program and maintains required student and program records, including planning and outcome data. Reports Perkins data as requested.
  • Assists in recruitment, selection, and retention of students.
  • Abides by the policies and procedures outlined in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Administrative Handbook.
  • Abides by all State regulatory and licensure requirements required by clinical affiliates.
  • Cooperates with college and other campuses in operation of the program.
  • Ensures accurate, up-to-date, comprehensive information about the program is available to the public.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with the community through positive public relations.
  • Performs all related and implied duties and others as may be assigned.
