This role is responsible for leading all aspects of North America domestic transportation management, spanning inbound, outbound, and inter-site shipments. The Director will oversee the six major process areas: freight procurement, booking & tendering, shipment tracking & visibility, freight audit, payment, and performance management. The scope includes FTL, LTL, Parcel, and fleet modes. The Director will provide strategic and operational leadership, partnering across Supply Chain, Operations, Customer Service and Finance to ensure exceptional service, cost performance, and compliance. The team includes both direct reports and site-based shippers who report locally but operate under transportation functional leadership. Travel up to 20%

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of transportation or logistics management experience, in multi-site manufacturing or distribution environments.
  • Expertise in FTL, LTL, Parcel, and fleet operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of transportation procurement, freight audit & pay processes, and TMS/ERP systems (SAP preferred).
  • Demonstrated success leading teams that include both direct reports and matrixed site-based personnel.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Proven ability to operate in execution-heavy, fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Transportation Management Leadership Own end-to-end transportation operations for North America, covering inbound, outbound, and inter-site flows.
  • Lead a team responsible for FTL, LTL, Parcel, and fleet shipments, ensuring seamless execution and high service levels.
  • Freight Procurement Develop and execute carrier sourcing strategies, negotiate contracts, and manage carrier relationships.
  • Establish rate structures, service commitments, and performance scorecards.
  • Booking & Tendering Oversee shipment creation, carrier selection, and tendering processes using TMS and manual workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with mode-specific requirements and documentation standards.
  • Shipment Tracking & Visibility Implement and manage real-time tracking, exception management, and customer communication protocols.
  • Drive proactive issue resolution and service recovery.
  • Freight Audit & Payment Lead centralized freight audit and payment processes, ensuring invoice accuracy, dispute resolution, and timely settlement.
  • Collaborate with Finance to align AP integration and cost allocation.
  • Performance Management Develop and monitor transportation KPIs (OTD, OTIF, cost per lane, dispute cycle time).
  • Conduct regular carrier reviews, manage cost-saving initiatives, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Act as the primary liaison between Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Operations, and external partners.
  • Present updates and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Continuous Improvement Identify and address recurring pain points, implement process enhancements, and support stabilization initiatives.
