The Muslim Chaplain at Tufts University plays a vital role in providing spiritual leadership and support to a diverse Muslim community within the university. This position involves collaborating with the University Chaplaincy team to develop and implement a vision for the Muslim community, coordinate worship and educational programs, and provide pastoral care. The chaplain also engages in multifaith initiatives and works closely with various campus partners to ensure the needs of Muslim students and staff are met.

  • Provide collaborative religious and philosophical leadership for the University community.
  • Develop, articulate, and implement a vision for the Muslim community with advisory and leadership groups.
  • Coordinate university worship and gatherings in the Muslim tradition, including holiday and seasonal observances.
  • Arrange educational programs related to Islam for a diverse audience.
  • Provide pastoral care and leadership in service, social justice, and multifaith initiatives.
  • Administer the Muslim community's program and connect it with broader expressions and resources.
  • Provide spiritual counseling to students and staff, including referrals as needed.
  • Support spiritual and ethical life and attend to program administration and collaborative responsibilities.
  • Completion of a Master's degree in Muslim studies, divinity, theology, religion, philosophy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with young adults in relevant settings.
  • Appropriate experience and/or chaplaincy training, including skills in community and leadership development, Islamic teaching, and spiritual leadership.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Multicultural knowledge and skills, with a commitment to nondiscrimination and social justice.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, contact management systems, and website maintenance.
  • Master of Divinity degree.
  • One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
  • Prior university chaplaincy experience.
  • Grant writing and/or fundraising experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
