About The Position

The Music Therapist assesses development and needs of the patient to facilitate music therapy interventions. Addresses physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals in 1-1 and group settings. Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to meet patient goals. Develops individualized treatment plans based on the assessment of the individual. Facilitates music interventions using singing, creating, moving to, playing to, and/or listening to music to address individualized plans of care. Observes patients’ reactions to various interventions and adapts interventions and plans of care based on patient response and progress. Documents and tracks progress toward patients’ individualized goals. Requirements

  • Degree in Music Therapy
  • Board certified or board certified eligible (must obtain within first 3 months of hire)
  • American Heart Association BLS certification within 3 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements therapeutic activities in accordance with patients’ reactions to various experiences.
  • Assesses needs and administers direct music therapy treatments, using harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic instruments, as well as voice, to create a musical environment in which to elicit responses from patients.
  • Provides developmentally and age-appropriate activities for patients of all ages; pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary treatment when appropriate.
  • Educates on the benefits of music therapy services to the healthcare team and advocates for necessary services on behalf of the patients.
  • Provides documentation that is timely, accurate, and compliant with organization standards.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in guitar, voice, piano, percussion, and music technology.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of musical styles and repertoire relevant to the pediatric population.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of musical and clinical resources relevant to diverse cultures and family systems.
  • Completes clinical competencies for position.
