About The Position

Julie Billiart Schools is a network of schools serving children in grades K-8 with special learning challenges. Our campuses in Lyndhurst, Akron, Westlake, and Brecksville offer unique learning environments for students with autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and social learning challenges. We are Catholic, non-public schools that respect diverse faith traditions. Position Description: The Music Therapist will report to and is evaluated by the School Principals at specified campus location of Akron and Lyndhurst Campuses. The Music Therapist is expected to provide individual and group music therapy to elementary grade school students with academic and social learning challenges.

Requirements

  • Possesses a Bachelor or Master’s degree in music therapy from an institution approved by the American Music Therapy Association.
  • Current certification as a MT – BC (Music Therapist – Board Certified)
  • 2+ years of experience working as a music therapist.
  • Experience working with elementary aged children with special learning needs.
  • Ability to sing and play guitar, piano, and the therapist’s primary instrument.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Flexible, creative, self-motivated.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and implement a therapeutic music program to facilitate learning and to achieve educational and behavioral objectives based on the student’s individual needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet a variety of learning needs.
  • Sing and play a wide range of musical instruments.
  • Provide instruction and supervision of students when using various musical instruments.
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction and music activities.
  • Observe, evaluate, and record student performance and development.
  • Implement a whole-child approach to learning by collaborating with Intervention Specialists and other staff therapists.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Maintain musical instruments.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
